Forex VPS comparison: how to choose an MT4/MT5 VPS (2026)

Last updated: September 2026

Every forex VPS provider says it is fast, stable and cheap. This guide compares the options Hong Kong traders actually choose between — a home PC, a broker’s free VPS, a cheap general-purpose VPS, and a dedicated forex VPS — and gives you seven checks you can verify yourself before paying anyone, including us.

The options, compared

Qualitative comparison by category. “Latency” here means to a broker whose servers are in Hong Kong.

OptionLatency to HK broker24/7 uptimeGood for
Home PC / laptopTypically 100–300msNo — sleep, updates, power, Wi-FiManual trading only
Broker’s free VPSDepends where the broker hosts itYes, while you meet the conditionsOne broker, meeting deposit/volume rules
Cheap general-purpose VPSUnpredictable; rarely broker-measuredUsually, but shared and oversoldWebsites, light tasks
Forex VPS in another cityGood to its own region; slower to HKYesBrokers hosted in that city
Forex VPS in a Hong Kong data centreLow single-digit ms to HK brokersYesHK-hosted brokers, EAs, several brokers at once

Free broker VPS offers usually come with a minimum deposit or monthly trading volume, and cover that broker only — check the terms on your broker’s site.

7 things to check before you choose

01

Where is your broker’s server?

This decides everything. A VPS helps most when it sits in the same city as the broker’s trade server. Find the server name in MT4/MT5, then ask the broker which city it is in.

02

Measured ping, not marketing

“Ultra-low latency” means nothing without a number to a named broker. Ask for measured MT4/MT5 pings — or test it yourself in the first days.

03

CPU clock speed

MT4/MT5 and most EAs lean on single-core speed. A high clock speed matters more than a large core count.

04

RAM per terminal

Each MT4/MT5 terminal with charts and an EA uses real memory. Size the plan by how many terminals you run, not by price.

05

Overselling

Very cheap plans are cheap because many customers share the same hardware. That shows up as lag spikes during busy market hours — exactly when you trade.

06

Setup and contract

Is MT4/MT5 pre-installed? How long until it is ready? Can you cancel monthly, or are you locked into a year?

07

Support in your language and timezone

When a VPS drops at 3am during the London–New York overlap, support that answers in Cantonese in your timezone matters.

fxVPS.io measured latency (August 2026)

Published so you can compare us against anyone else’s numbers. Measured with MT5 from our Hong Kong data centre; not guaranteed.

BrokerServer regionMeasured ping
Ultima MarketsHong Kong2ms
Vantage MarketsHong Kong~2ms
IC Markets (Asia)Singapore / Tokyo~5ms
Pepperstone (Asia)Singapore / Tokyo~5ms
Exness (Asia)Singapore~8ms
XM (Asia)Singapore~10ms

Only brokers with servers in Hong Kong reach ~2ms. If your broker is only in Singapore, a Singapore VPS will be marginally faster for that broker — we say so.

fxVPS.io plans

PlanSpecTerminalsMonthly
Lite1 vCPU · 3 GB DDR5 · 30 GB NVMe SSD1-2US$28
Standard2 vCPU · 6 GB DDR5 · 40 GB NVMe SSD3-5US$48
Pro4 vCPU · 10 GB DDR5 · 60 GB NVMe SSD6-10US$78

Latency is identical on every plan — the plan decides how many terminals run comfortably, not execution speed. Check the live price at checkout.

Frequently asked questions

Which forex VPS do you recommend?

The one closest to your broker’s trade server, measured, from a provider that does not oversell. For brokers hosted in Hong Kong that means a VPS in a Hong Kong data centre; for brokers in Singapore or London, a VPS in those cities.

Is there a difference between an MT4 VPS and an MT5 VPS?

No — it is the same Windows server. What differs is the platform your broker supports. fxVPS.io comes with both installed.

Is a broker’s free VPS good enough?

Often, if you use only that broker and keep meeting its deposit or volume conditions. The limits are that it covers one broker and can be withdrawn if you fall below the requirements.

How much should a forex VPS cost?

Dedicated forex VPS plans commonly cost more than a general VPS because they include Windows, run fewer customers per server, and sit in trading data centres. A price far below the market usually means shared, oversold hardware.

Is fxVPS.io the same as fxvps.biz or fxvps.host?

No. fxVPS.io is not affiliated with fxvps.biz, fxvps.host or any similarly named service.
