Hong Kong VPS vs Singapore VPS: How Asian Forex Traders Should Choose

Last updated: August 2026

A Singapore VPS is not automatically better because it is “closer to Asia”, and a Hong Kong VPS is not automatically better because you live in Hong Kong. The only location that matters is the city where your broker’s matching engine sits. This guide maps common Asia servers and shows when Hong Kong wins, when Singapore is close enough, and when a US or EU VPS is the wrong product.

Choose the city of the broker, not the city you live in

Your laptop can be in Kowloon, Shenzhen or London. The order still has to reach the broker server. If that server is in Equinix HK1 or another Hong Kong facility, a Hong Kong VPS is the short path. If the live server is in Singapore or Tokyo, a Hong Kong VPS is still usually 5–10ms — far better than home broadband, but not the theoretical minimum.

Check the server name in MT4/MT5 or your welcome email. “Asia”, “Live” or “HK” in the name is a hint, not proof. The ping you see in the terminal after you log in is the proof.

Where common brokers actually sit

BrokerTypical server regionFrom fxVPS HK
Ultima MarketsHong Kong2ms
Vantage MarketsHong Kong~2ms
IC Markets (Asia)Singapore / Tokyo~5ms
Pepperstone (Asia)Singapore / Tokyo~5ms
Exness (Asia)Singapore~8ms
XM (Asia)Singapore~10ms

Server locations can change and accounts can be assigned to different nodes. Latency is measured via MT5 from our Hong Kong data centre and is not guaranteed.

Map-style diagram: Hong Kong VPS at 2ms to HK brokers, 5-10ms to Singapore/Tokyo brokers, versus 150-250ms from a US VPS
Hong Kong covers both “HK-native” brokers and most Asia servers. A US VPS covers neither well.

When Singapore looks better on paper

If every account you run is on a Singapore-only live server and you scalp ticks, a Singapore VPS can shave a few milliseconds versus Hong Kong. For most Hong Kong traders that extra hop is smaller than the spread. The expensive mistake is buying a cheap US or German VPS because the monthly price is lower — that adds 150–250ms and defeats the reason to rent a VPS.

A simple rule

Broker in Hong Kong → Hong Kong VPS

Ultima Markets, Vantage Markets, and other HK live servers. This is where 2ms comes from.

Broker in Singapore or Tokyo → Hong Kong VPS is still fine

Expect about 5–10ms. That is usually enough for EAs, copy trading and most scalping.

You trade both → one Hong Kong VPS

Run one terminal to Ultima and another to IC Markets on the same machine. Lite/Standard/Pro is about how many terminals, not about extra latency.

Avoid US / EU VPS for Asia brokers

The Pacific crossing is the problem. No CPU upgrade fixes that.

Start from Hong Kong if your broker is in Asia

fxVPS is in Equinix HK1: 2ms to Ultima, about 2ms to Vantage, about 5–10ms to common Singapore/Tokyo Asia servers. MT4/MT5 pre-installed, from $14 first month.

Frequently asked questions

I live in Hong Kong — do I still need a Hong Kong VPS?

Yes, if you care about execution. Home broadband in Hong Kong still takes 100–300ms to reach a broker in the same city because the path goes through your ISP. The VPS sits next to the broker, not next to your sofa.

Is a Singapore VPS better for IC Markets?

It can be a few milliseconds faster if your assigned server is in Singapore. A Hong Kong VPS is typically around 5ms to IC Markets Asia — still a large upgrade from home broadband. Measure both if you already have access; do not assume the marketing region name.

Can I run Hong Kong and Singapore brokers on one VPS?

Yes. Each MT4/MT5 terminal connects to its own server. Lite supports 1–2 terminals, Standard 3–5, Pro 6–10.

Why not put the VPS in Tokyo?

Tokyo helps if your broker’s only live server is there. Most Hong Kong traders also use HK-based brokers. Hong Kong is the better single location for that mix, and CN2 routes from mainland China to Hong Kong are typically cleaner than to Tokyo.
