Running a gold EA (XAUUSD): why it needs a VPS
Last updated: October 2026
Gold moves fast, trades almost around the clock on weekdays, and spikes on US data releases. An EA trading XAUUSD is exposed to all of that — so where it runs matters as much as its settings. This guide covers what a VPS does for a gold EA, and what it does not.
Why gold is harder on an EA than most pairs
1
It barely stops
Gold trades almost 24 hours on weekdays, with a short daily break that varies by broker. An EA has to be running whenever its setup appears.
2
News spikes
US data such as non-farm payrolls, CPI and Fed decisions move gold sharply within seconds. Spreads widen and prices jump.
3
Speed shows up as slippage
In a fast market the price can move before your order arrives. The longer the path to the broker, the more it can move.
What a VPS does for a gold EA
- Keeps MT4/MT5 running 24/5 — no laptop sleep, Windows Update restarts at home, power cuts or Wi-Fi drops.
- Shortens the route to the broker: from a Hong Kong data centre, orders reach Hong Kong-hosted brokers in low single-digit milliseconds instead of 100–300ms over home broadband.
- Gives the EA a dedicated, stable machine that is not also running your browser, games and video calls.
What a VPS cannot do
A VPS makes an EA run reliably. It does not make an EA profitable. A strategy that loses money on your laptop loses money faster on a VPS, because it runs more often. Be wary of anyone who:
- Promises fixed or guaranteed monthly returns
- Asks for your trading password to “manage” your account
- Requires you to use a specific broker and VPS they choose
- Shows profits but no verified, long-term track record
fxVPS.io provides hosting only. We do not sell EAs, signals or account management, and we never ask for your trading password.
Gold-specific setup checklist
- Check the gold symbol name on your broker — it may be XAUUSD, GOLD, or carry a suffix. The EA must be attached to the exact symbol.
- Confirm the contract size and minimum lot for gold on your account; they differ between brokers and change the money at risk per trade.
- Decide how the EA behaves around major news — many traders pause or widen limits before US data releases.
- Test on a demo account first, on the same VPS, before going live.
- Check the MT4/MT5 journal regularly for disconnects and rejected orders.

Frequently asked questions
Will a VPS make my gold EA more profitable?
No. It makes the EA run reliably and reach the broker faster, which can reduce missed trades and slippage. Whether the strategy makes money depends on the strategy.
Does gold trade 24 hours?
Almost, on weekdays — with a short daily break whose timing depends on your broker. It closes at the weekend.
Which plan do I need for a gold EA?
It depends on how many terminals you run, not on the instrument. One or two terminals suit Lite; several accounts or EAs suit Standard or Pro.
Should my gold EA trade during news?
That is a strategy decision. Be aware that spreads widen and prices can jump during major US releases, which affects stop-losses and fills.
Does fxVPS.io sell gold EAs or signals?
No. fxVPS.io provides VPS hosting only and does not provide investment advice, EAs, signals or account management.
